Cabaña Flotante Kurupira
We selected this hotel for the one feature its name already gives away: Kurupira is...
Leticia sits at the one place in South America where Colombia, Brazil and Peru meet along the Amazon, and Decalodge Ticuna, part of the Decameron group's Trademark Collection with Wyndham, builds its whole identity around that fact. The property describes itself as a modern building with an international architectural design, dressed throughout with bold colours and large carved wooden figures drawn from Amazonian craft traditions. Twenty-eight rooms open onto private terraces facing a family pool that runs through the centre of the grounds, and the hotel runs on a modified American plan, breakfast and lunch or dinner included, rather than the fully inclusive format some travellers might expect from the brand elsewhere in Colombia.
We added Decalodge Ticuna to our selection because it does something none of the smaller Leticia hotels attempt: it turns the tri-border setting into the actual programme. Peruvian cooking at the in-house Lotto restaurant, Brazilian cocktails at the Kurupira lobby bar, and a Chant of the Shaman performance three nights a week give the stay a cultural structure that a boutique guesthouse simply has no scale to offer. A TripAdvisor Certificate of Excellence held every year from 2012 to 2021 points to consistency rather than a single good season.
Carrera 11 puts the hotel about ten minutes from Alfredo Vásquez Cobo International Airport and within reach of the Amazon River, in the part of Leticia built up around resort-style properties rather than the backpacker guesthouses nearer the centre. Being a Decameron property also means being plugged into the group's own Decameron Explorer network, which runs the excursions that would otherwise require piecing together independent guides: lake trips, visits to indigenous communities, and nature reserve outings launched directly from the hotel rather than arranged from scratch.
Price: Premium, international resort brand
Vibe: resort, multicultural, programmed
Rooms: 28, each with a private terrace facing the pool
Best For: travellers wanting a full-service resort stay, cultural programming, groups
Our Favorite Thing About the Hotel: the Chant of the Shaman performance, held Monday, Wednesday and Friday
Dining: Lotto Restaurant (Peruvian cuisine), Kurupira lobby bar (Brazilian cocktails), Tres Fronteras poolside bar, modified American plan
Amenities: outdoor pool, plunge pool, spa and wellness centre, massage, business centre, Decameron Explorer excursions office
Attractions: the Amazon River, Alfredo Vásquez Cobo International Airport (about 10 minutes), lakes and indigenous communities via Decameron Explorer, the Brazil and Peru border crossings
Dining here is deliberately split by country: the Lotto Restaurant serves Peruvian dishes, the Kurupira bar in the lobby pours Brazilian cocktails and spirits, and the poolside Tres Fronteras bar takes its name from the triple border itself. On Monday, Wednesday and Friday evenings, the hotel hosts a Chant of the Shaman performance drawing on Amazonian ritual and music, alongside broader entertainment pulling from the music and dance traditions of all three neighbouring countries. It is the clearest expression of the hotel's whole premise: Leticia as a meeting point rather than a single national destination.
Each of the twenty-eight rooms opens onto its own terrace with a pool view, decorated in a rustic style that leans on local materials and craft rather than a generic international finish, and sleeps up to four guests across king or twin configurations. The family pool itself threads through the central part of the property, with a shallow end and a separate plunge pool for guests who want fewer laps and more lounging. Air conditioning or a ceiling fan, cable television and a safe cover the practical side of the room.
Beyond the grounds, the on-site Decameron Explorer office organises excursions that would otherwise take real planning: trips to nearby lakes, visits to indigenous communities, and outings to natural reserves around Leticia. Canopy activities and kayaking are available for an additional fee, pitched at guests who want an active day between the hotel's cultural evenings. The spa and wellness centre and a business centre round out a property built to serve resort travellers, small conference groups and families with roughly equal attention.
